| I'm watching the meeting and the discussion concerns placement of SPED within Litchfield from another district ... do we have any kids in town that come from other districts that are SPED?

| No. But if we do take a tuition student, it's possible that they could become coded. The policy is based on law due to a very nasty issue in another town a couple of years ago. In the other town, a staff member tuitioned in their kid - who was then evaluated and coded. There was a big battle over who paid the SPED cost. The staff member felt they paid a flat fee and the receiving district (their employer) should absorb the extra sped costs. The receiving district either wanted the parent or the home district to pay the extra cost. It was a messy battle that was only resolved by legislation.

| Thanks Cindy, appreciate the explanation. Can you tell us how many tuition students Litchfield takes in on average?

| Very few - The Supt approves so I don't know an exact count but usually it's a staff member's child or very rarely a child from another district that may have some issue (being bullied) in that other town - so there is an agreement to send them here to a new environment.
